Texile Postcard Project Week #82

April 28th - May 4th 2019

Eucalypt leaves against an orange sunset of Australia or South Africa

I am using this card as a link between South Africa and Australia. This small branch of leaves represents the many eucalypt trees in Australia and the few that grow well in South Africa.
The background fabric is hand dyed and the leaves are penciled and painted and machine stitched.

Textile Postcard Project Week #81

April 21st - 27th 2019

February 2019 saw us sailing across the Indian Ocean in the Queen Elizabeth Cruise Ship. What an experience for us. The room card/key I was issued with as we came on board is really the only souvenir from the trip.
I have covered the postcard in blue/green hand dyed cotton fabric which represents the water. My machine stitching represents the swell and waves of the Ocean which is very deep ..many places over 4 kilometers deep!

Textile Postcard Project Week #80

April 14th - 20th 2019

Table Mountain, South Africa
From the window of the Cape Town Hotel where we stayed we had a most wonderful view of Table Mountain. This spectacular mountain gave a wonderful background view for Cape Town and the harbour. My textile interpretation has been made as a silhouette and covers the whole postcard space.I have used hand dyed cotton fabric and machine stitching.

Stamped Images

 April 7th -13th 2019

While in Cape Town I purchased several squares of African printed fabric. I have covered this postcard with a piece of this and overlayed it with a strip of the thick table napkin which I have printed 'African like' flowers on. They are not the traditional African designs but many of the flowers we saw were rather tropical in appearance.

Textile Postcard Project. Week # 78

March 31st - April 6th 2019

Using the very sturdy paper napkin which I collected from the Table Bay Hotel in Capetown, I pressed it and stamped a block print design on it using fabric paint. The result is clear and very effective.
