Textile Postcard Project Week #39

June 24th - 30th 2018

Bluebird applique

I have never seen a bluebird quite like this apart from a necklace and earrings I had as a very young teenager. Bluebird jewellery was very popular at that time. This is definitely a make believe motif but would be suitable to stitch onto clothing as a decoration....perhaps as a ready made brooch.
It is machine stitched using cotton fabric and threads.

Textile Postcard Project Week #38

Peep Peep Mother Hen!

 June 17th -23rd 2018.

Another chicken motif, calling for mother hen perhaps? The postcard base is covered with hand dyed cotton muslin which somebody gave me..at last I have found a use for it.
I remember enjoying the challenge of making these motives. I have no idea what I intended to use them for ...maybe a better idea got in the way! Here are chicken's feet, in much closer detail. They  which were really challenging to do.

Textile Poscard Project Week #37

June10th-16th 2018

Chick Chick!
Several years ago I made a series of applique motifs featuring common creatures such as this little yellow chicken. As a child I loved these soft feathered newly hatched chickens. This fellow is foraging for food, maybe in the 'barnyard' or the 'chook pen' as it was known on the farm I grew up on.
I used cotton fabric and threads to machine stitch this motif.

Textile Postcard Project Week #36

June 3rd -9th 2018

I found this little Scottie Dog applique in the box with the Butterfly of last week. I cannot really remember stitching him but maybe it was for an item of children's clothing. He is machine made using black and variegated threads.
It was probably made during the 1990s
It was a delightful surprise and Scottie is most suitable for this project. The background fabric of the card is hand dyed muslin.
There are several other fabric applique  shapes which I will post during the next few weeks

See my tartan collar!
