Textile Postcard Project Week #31

April 29th - May5th 2018

A little bit of weaving!!
Sadly, again, the colour of this felt from Kazakhstan has not shown brightly. Maybe it is the lack of clear contrast with the card. The actual colour of the remnant of thick felt is a rich russet red colour. A variegated thread has been woven into the lacy ribbon which has been appliquéd onto the felt.  In reality the card is very attractive with some of my favourite colours.

A much clearer view

Textile Postcard Project Week #30

 April 22nd- 28th 2018

Maroon felt on on a russet tan background.

This is another example of the felt from Kazakhstan. I am disappointed that the lovely dark maroon colour is not showing brightly in the scan/photo. However, the applique of lacy ribbon over pink silk with three tiny examples of Grub stitch does add to the appearance of this felt remnant. The felt itself is actually about 5mm in thickness which makes it quite heavy to work with.

Three tiny pink grubs!

Textile Postcard Project Week # 29

April 15th - 21st 2018

Mauve, reds and blues used as theme colours

I acquired this very thick maroon coloured felt some years ago. It was hand made and dyed in the remote country of Kazakhstan. In my 'stash' of textiles, I found a few scraps left from other works. This has been embroidered with quite a heavy thread which I dyed myself...hence the variance in colour. Sadly the rich purple/maroon colour does not show clearly in my scan of the postcard.
The base fabric of each postcard varies due to different batches of hand dyeing. These last two postcards have been a rather dull brown in colour where as other cards are much brighter in colour.

Textile Postcard Project Week # 28

April 8th - 14th 2018

I am really enjoying the making and posting process of my postcard series. There are, naturally, some cards that I like better than others and I am sure you, the follower, will feel the same way.
I really like the card that I have made for this week. The fabric I began with was a pre-loved cream woollen blanket. Some years ago I dyed this old blanket with blue procian dye and these are left over scraps which I have embroidered with hand dyed cotton thread. The ball of thread was dipped in both a pot of yellow and then a pot of blue dye.

Textile Postcard Project Week #27

April 1st - 7th 2018

Week #27

The backing for this card has been Eco dyed to a pretty tan colour. The featured sample is a scrap of per-loved cream woollen blanket which has been dyed with Eucalypt leaves. The dark woollen thread was also included in a eucalypt dye pot.
