Textile Postcard Project Week # 69

'Rhinoceros disk'

January 20th- 26th 2019

I purchased this small disc in a tourist shop. It has the image of a rhinoceros printed on it. The disk was attached to hessian so ideal for use on a postcard. The red fabric has been printed in South Africa as well.
While in the Game Park it was exciting to see rhinoceros in the wild. On one occasion there was two of these huge animals on the track in front of us. They were having a 'tiff' and butting each other with their huge horns. What an amazing site to see them at such close range.

Textile Postrcard Project Week #68

Giraffe print

January 13th - 19th 2019

Currently we are holidaying in South Africa where we enjoyed a wonderful few days in the Pilansberg National Park staying at the Olive Tree Lodge. We were delighted to have five 2 hour excursions into the Game Park. The animal I most wanted to see was a giraffe. Yes, they are magnificent creatures.
A few years ago I made a rubber stamp of a giraffe. I have used a print from this stamp to make an image for the current postcard. (Of course they look much better in real life!!) I have printed the image on hand dyed cotton  fabric and stitched the edge with a variegated rayon thread.

Blue & Yellow pattern

Into the New Year we go. Slow Stitching is still on my mind. This is a very simple pattern using a variegated yellow and blue cotton thread. The wool back ground is a sample of old blanket which has been Eco Dyed with Turmeric.

The detailed view shows that my stitches are not exact but the result it still very attractive. In fact sometimes slight imperfections make the finished result more interesting!
